Introduction Module: Getting Started
You will find that online courses require skills and habits that may be less essential in traditional courses. Successful students effectively manage their workload by setting up a regular time and location to study in an environment that is comfortable and free of clutter and distractions.
Module 1: Introduction to Sustainability
The best-known definition of sustainable development is from the Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development: Our Common Future popularly known as ‘The Brundtland Report’ and is most commonly quoted as follows: ‘Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Module 2: Multidisciplinary Inter-relationships of Sustainability
How are interior design and health studies related? According to a study done in 2011 by Paul Stock and Rob J.F. Burton, “Sustainability is multiple things at once and navigates interesting territory—it is a goal, an ideal, an umbrella, and a sub-discipline of multiple disciplines. Sustainability is also inherently transdisciplinary.”
Module 7: Maintaining Sustainability
While corporations, communities, and individuals talk about the importance of maintaining sustainability, we fail to acknowledge specific activities which are constantly hampering the environment around us. It’s easy to blame the large-scale industries… third world manufacturing economies… but, our individual actions could also be measured. Ask yourself, how long will it take to implement a sustainability initiative? And more importantly, is there enough support to maintain the initiative?
Module 8: Growing Sustainability Accomplishments
Is it possible to work in sustainable ways, as we have defined them throughout the semester, and realistically attain growth of those sustainability efforts? Sustainability efforts that grow too quickly may find it difficult maintain that growth. Sustainability efforts that grow too slowly or not at all may stagnate.
